  • Former Crimewatch presenter Sue Cook has accused the BBC of being ‘woke’
  • She told Nigel Farage on GB News that the BBC used to be ‘a national treasure’
  • Now she said it was more about ticking ‘woke boxes’ with her cast
  • She said the BBC’s Covid coverage was ’embarrassing’ not prepared to ask questions

Former Crimewatch presenter Sue Cook has criticized the BBC’s ‘shameful’ reporting, claiming the broadcaster is ticking ‘woke boxes’.

Miss Cook, 73, acknowledged that the BBC still produces ‘some good drama’ and also praised its foreign correspondents.

But she accused the corporation of not ‘asking for anything’, especially during the pandemic, as she claimed the BBC was no longer the ‘absolute national institution’ it once was.

‘Unfortunately it’s not looking too good,’ she told Nigel Farage on his GB News show Talking Pints. ‘It was an absolute national institution and a huge treasure, and I think they still do some good dramas, although not as good as they used to.

‘You see all the alarm boxes being ticked when the plaster arrives.’

Miss Cook added: ‘The foreign correspondents are still second to none – people like Frank Gardner and Jeremy Bowen and Orla Guerin are wonderful. But the news gathering is really quite embarrassing. And they don’t seem to ask for anything.’

Miss Cook presented Crimewatch with Nick Ross from 1984 to 1996. She also presented Radio 4’s You And Yours and Making History.

She lambasted the BBC for its Covid coverage.

‘It’s a shame,’ she said. ‘During the lockdown, has anyone ever asked: “Why?” How will children be affected if you close schools? How will university students be affected if your universities close? Knife crime went up. Was that journalism about that?’

‘In my day we would have found the truth.’
